Targa Sixty Six meeting Roebling Road, Savannah Georgia. October 2007
All these photos and more can be viewed on our Savannah photo page.

The last Targa Sixty-Six meeting for 2006 was held at Roebling Road Raceway, Savannah Georgia.

Beautiful cool temperatures and blue sunny skies greeted the members of Targa Sixty-Six as we all prepared to see how Roebling Road Raceway drove with its newly repaved track surface. Initial reports were good, very smooth with most members improving on their lap times from previous years.

Regular attendees such as Mike and Cheri Amalfitano, the Schumann family, Don Marsh, Neil Huffman, Bill Mazzoni, Jeff Mennen and others were on hand to get some seat time and welcome our new members. Targa is a unique club in that you can get as much time behind the wheel as you can stand. Some members log as much as 6-8 hours on the track per weekend while others go out, have a bit of fun then wander the paddock visiting old friends and making new ones before venturing back to the track for some more driving excitement.

As always Brian is on hand to offer instruction here checking the oil on our pace car for the weekend a 2007 Bentley.
Dawn and Dolfina Redman tirelessly do the rounds all weekend making sure everyone is having the best time that they can

The Collier collection once again brought out some great cars from their magnificent collection. Targa gives them a chance to get the cars sorted out for upcoming events. Joining Scott George and the guys was Roger Mandeville who had quite an interesting weekend pushing a wide variety of cars around the track. Rogers engineering background, driving and car set up experience helped get the Porsche 917 PA, Porsche 914-6 GT, Elva Porsche, Corvette Grand Sport and Porsche Carrera 6 running sweetly.

Brumos were out in force somehow fitting a little fun on track into their very busy schedule of business on the track. Despite a very heavy Grand Am Daytona Prototype program Bob and Harris Snodgrass accompanied by Susan, along with Bert Roberts had fun running the very pretty Brumos 914-6 GTs.

New member Warren Aplin brought along a Ford GT as his street car
and a very pretty Triumph TR6for the track. By the end of the weekend
Warren was turning in some very respectable times for his first race track experience..

Arnold Poundstone and his Ferrari of Washington group had a very good weekend logging hundreds of miles on their Ferrari Challenge cars, a 275GTB and long time Targa supporter Dick Liebhabers512BB LM.

Other new members at Targa came thanks to Kent Bain and his Vintage Racing Services, one of the best shops in the North East.

From Vero Beach came quite a collection of cars under the Wire Wheel banner..or at least stickers. Hayes Harris had two track Lotus Elise, Byron DeFour and his brother brought out a Lotus Elise Motorsport, BMW CSL and Porsche 911, while Farrell Preston had his Genie sports racer and Lotus Elise Motorsports. This group of friends had a blast all weekend lapping together closely..right Byron, Farrell??

Hayes was kind enough to allow us to use his red Elise to give rides all weekend.

Thanks Hayes, Charlotte, Hunter & Hamilton

Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and Tim Suddard came to see
what Targa is about. Tim brought a bit of gear and some friends
along. While turning some very respectable lap times he managed
to get data on a variety of cars, some with Brian driving, get driving
impressions and having photo's taken. All this for a couple of articles
about the difference between a Mazda Miata spec racer and a ..........
Porsche 962!!!!!!

Bill and Jane Warner were with us from Jacksonville with Bill's ex Group 44 Triumph TR8 and TR6. Bill wisely had with him Lanky Foushee one of the main people behind the fantastic success of Group 44.

For the Ford people Ross Bremer and Karen Perrin were carrying the flag with their beautifully prepared, as always, Capri and Anglia. Lee Holman of Holman and Moody to text his amazing Ford Fairlane. Old member Caesar Cone reappeared with his faithful Alfa.

The Schumanns were out in force. John Schumann III putting his new Corvette Z06 to good use and finding that it was a bit faster than the modified Viper we are used to seeing him in. Kathi as usual keeps getting better and better lapping very smoothly and quickly in her Ferrari Challenge Stradale. This weekend John Schumann brought something old and something new. An Aston martin DBR 1 was the old while a Porsche Carrera GT was the new.

There was yet another Stradale for Rheinhold Priek of Amelia Island, FL.

Perhaps the quickest car of the weekend was Bill Hawes mighty Jaegermeister Porsche 962.

In attendance but without cars to drive were Bill Fester and friend from Texas who made the trek and stayed in a motor home just to enjoy the camaraderie and special vehicles. Jennifer Revson also joined us along with Jeffrey Prisco
